Charity Golf Day a big hit
It was a sunny day on the greens for the 144 golfers who joined us at the Bundaberg Golf Course for the annual Friendlies Foundation Charity Golf Day..
The Friendlies Foundation co-ordinator, Maria Ebert said it was a record turnout of players on the day, with 36 teams taking to the Bundaberg Golf Course for a few holes, beverages and laughs.
“It was great to see so many returning players, as well as some joining us for the first time,” Maria said.
“It shows the fantastic support we receive for our golf day and our Foundation, and it just made for a really relaxed and fun day.”
Golfers enjoyed lunch by Guzman Y Gomez, a sausage sizzle on the course by Ray White Bundaberg City and burgers before presentations by the Rotary Club.
“We have also had an amazing response from businesses sponsoring the event and helping to make it such a success, with an unexpected amount of prizes to give away and put up for auction on the day,” Maria said.
Money raised from events like the golf day goes to ensuring the Friendly Society Private Hospital continues to provide life-saving services locally, reducing the need for Bundaberg patients to travel to Brisbane.
The Friendlies Foundation Co-ordinator Maria Ebert said they raised over $20,000 which far exceeded our expectation.
Funds raised this year will be used towards a $3 million unit complex to be built on the corner near the Friendlies Hospital in Bundaberg and will feature 16 interconnecting units for remote families needing treatment, trainee doctors, nurses and remote staff.
