Information for Patients

The following are the most common questions for patients attending The Friendlies Day Oncology Unit. If you have any other questions, please contact one of our team on 4331 1661.

Are there costs or fees?

If you have private health insurance, your account will be forwarded to your health fund on your behalf.

Upon admission, the hospital will collect any excess payment as part of your health fund policy. It’s a good idea to check with your health fund whether you have any annual excess or co-payment applicable to your Day Oncology stay.

Patients who do not have private health insurance are asked to finalise their accounts 48 hours prior to treatment.

Can I bring my friends and family?

Moral support will help on your road to recovery.

The Day Oncology Unit has space for friends or family members and we encourage someone to keep you company and drive you home after your first treatment.

Helpful Hints

  • Eat and drink normally prior to your admission and keep taking all of your current medications unless advised otherwise.
  • Since treatment times can vary you should definitely bring along books, magazines, iPads, knitting or whatever else keeps you entertained.
  • We recommend having someone drive you home until you know how the treatment will affect you.
